Product Description
In this more than 1-hour long DVD featuring the Digital Rebel XSi/450D, Rick Sammon will show viewers all of the basic steps to taking great images. From camera basics to exposure, lenses, sport shooting, photographing in low light, close-up photography, people and portraits, animals and pets, Rick breaks down complex topics into fun and interesting lessons. While other videos in this market feature an actor standing next to a camera on a tripod, Rick goes out on location to exciting sites that offer numerous subjects to shoot. He will entertain, educate, and inspire viewers to become better photographers.

Go to any Rick Sammon workshop or seminar and it will be standing-room only. The popular speaker and Canon Explorer of Light travels the country on behalf of Canon and SanDisk teaching amateur photographers how to shoot better pictures. He has hosted shows on the DIY network as well as on ESPN and the Outdoor Life Network.

4 out of 5 stars Okay; Good for beginning SLR owners, but not a lot of info on controls.   June 5, 2010

Hey. This is very, very, very Basic. I own this dvd and the Magic Lantern dvd for the XSi. On the whole, they have differnt weaknesses. If you are new to SLRs (digital or film), then you might enjoy viewing both. But, if you are comfy with your photo skills and mostly want someone to walk you through your cameras buttons and menus, I recommend the Magic Lantern. I'm glad I watch this one (picked it up used for less than a buck), but I can't say I learned much; though I did pick up a tip or two. It's a nice tutorial on the Shooting Modes and How to Take Better Pictures by thinking about them. But, he doesn't show the buttons half the time. He shows you how to get to the Quality Setting menu and the White Balance menu...but not lots of others. The Magic Lantern Magic Lantern Guides: Canon EOS Rebel XSi EOS 450D EOS Rebel XS EOS 1000D Multimedia Workshop book shows far fewer photography hints, but does take you through each menu and show you where the controls are found for all the major controls. Overall, I would recommend the Magic Lantern before this one for most people. It's pretty basic. So, if you need basic, watch it. But, beware it won't focus on many of the specific controls.

It did not cover the basic operations of the camera. Most of the functions and settings were not covered. Michael Andrews video is much better!!
