5 out of 5 stars excellent for the price.   March 25, 2009

Yes, no instructions. ... my box of cereal did not haave instructions either... yes, it is about as easy as pouring cereal.

You will have to escuse the length of this review. Im always nervous about buying bargain gear when so little has been written about them, so when i review i try to be as clear as possible.

For the price this is one heck of a deal.

Easy to setup, it extends to a full width and height of 9 feet.

SETUP:

The crossbar is comprised of 4 segments which interlock. If you want to have this narrower than 9 feet you can just keave out a crossbar and bring it down to about 6.5 - 7 feet, or leave out 2 crossbars an dit will be a little under 4 feet wide

Each stand is spring cushioned and is easy to foldup and expand out.

The entire thing can be extended to 9 feet by a single person, first put up the stangs,. then put on the crossbar and secure it with the wingnut and washer, then raise up the top column on either side, then raise up the middle column on either side.

Build Quality:

I believe you are getting more than you pay for with this. It is not quite a high end professional studio backdrop stand, but for the price i dont think you can beat this. The stands are pretty stable. If working with this outside you might want some sandbags or some stakes if you are on soft ground.

The castings arent totally polished up, meaning you see some casting leaves sticking out, but this doesent affect the performance. You will want to make sure you pick up a little socket so you can tighten the grippers as overtime im sure they will lax a bit. I am sorry but i dont know the size, but i know the tightener that came with my manfrotto 190Pro tripod is a perfect fit.

The crossbar interlocking seems a little flimsy, basically you insert part A into part B and twist 90 degrees, there is no stop in this, if you rotate 180 it will come loose, so it must stay 90 degrees. The good thing is they have alignment stickers so you will know when you are set up right

Da BAG!

The bag that comes with it suprised me. It is not top-notch but a far cry better than what i expected. It is lightly padded(maybe 1/4inch thick light foam) on the outside as well as on the inside of each inner pocket. The inner pockets are on either side and are a perfect for for the backdrop support stands. In the center section it has elastic bands secured in the middle section to accommodate each of the 4 crossbar segments. It has a zipper along the middle and one end has a zipper around the edges so just the end flap can be opened. There is NOTHING waterproof on this bag. if it gets wet, everything inside will get wet.

When everything is in the bag you can pick it up and swing it over your shoulder without hearing any cling-clang inside, everything is securly held in place.

Summary:
All in all you get a pretty good backdrop stand for this. I wouldnt reccommend this for heavy use, it can hold a few muslins with no effort. Another reviewer sait it will hold his 36ft roll of seamless paper... it MAY asd long as the weight is not all in the middle of the crossbar, as long as the paper roll is as wide as the crossbar it should hold fine.

I bought this backdrop stand for a mobile studio setup. This will be perfect for my needs. Everything collapses and goes into a nice padded 4ft x 8inch bag. it even came with 2 backdrop clamps. I reccommend buying a couple more. Even clamps from home depot should work.

I purchased this support system to use occasionally for small sets/backgrounds on our church platform. I have very little storage space, so needed something that would break down to a very compact size.

This unit arrived impressively packaged in a compact and well organized case. It concerned me at first that it had no real directions, but it ended up there actually wasn't a need. It is very easy to set up. I really like the telescoping pipe that rises from the tripod. It is easy to lift with the weight of a backdrop already there. The clamps that lock the vertical bars seem to be well designed with a tight hold. I'm not worried about my background slowly lowering. The crossbar unit is also well designed. Instead of 4 pieces of pipe that simply slide together, they lock in place giving strength and solidity to the entire unit.

For the price, I am amazed at the quality. I was expecting to receive a lower quality unit that would need some extra help to function as I needed it to. I have had it up for 6 weeks now and it hasn't budged.

I would highly recommend this product.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely Worth the Price!   September 21, 2009

I ordered this stand on September 8th and received it by the 15th.

The stand itself is excellent. I panicked a little at first because yes, no instructions.. but even without them I had the stand assembled in about 15 minutes and that includes the time it took to get the tape off the box without a pair of scissors.

It is a good weight, but I agree that if on soft or uneven ground some extra weight would possibly be necessary.

Two very nice clamps come with the setup. I would probably get a couple extra when ordering the stand.

The carrying bag is also very nice... a place for everything.

I'm very happy with my purchase and thanks to all who reviewed the item... it was a big help when deciding on a stand.

I bought this so I could do some green screen photos of my pets.
It was easy to set up (even without instructions), was sturdy while assembled (even while my pets ran around trying to avoid being photographed) and was easy to take down. It stores neatly in a carry case and takes little room. Everything I could ask for.
